Geoffrey E. Thwaites is an independent problem solver and technical visionary with a lifelong commitment to practical systems thinking and physical causality. Monica Politano is a seasoned space-domain professional with thirty years of experience spanning both industry and the European Space Agency (ESA). She is an aerospace engineer with a strong technical foundation, managerial experience, and a focus on innovative, visionary solutions for the future space economy. She currently works within ESA’s Connectivity and Secure Communications Directorate, contributing to the ARTES Advanced Research in Telecommunications Systems (ARTES) programme. In her role, Monica leads the Intelligent System Initiative, advancing the critical technologies and building blocks that will underpin future end-to-end autonomous space-to-ground telecommunication systems. She also drives business development activities for key emerging satcom applications, including Data Processing in Space, In-Orbit Servicing, Assembly and Manufacturing, and End-of-Life management, supporting ESA’s broader ambitions in environmental sustainability and circular-economy-oriented space missions. In addition, she coordinates the strategic planning and workplan for satellite platform technologies within ARTES. Previously, Monica spent a decade working across major ESA flight telecommunications projects—such as SAT-AIS, EDRS-C, and HyDRON—overseeing engineering development, AIT campaigns, end-to-end system validation, and operator coordination. She also headed ESA’s TRP/TDE Planning & Implementation Section focusing on basic, risky and innovative technologies. Mr. Bart Kemper is a Louisiana‑based mechanical engineer with over 34 years of engineering experience across a wide range of industries, as well as military engineering through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve, where his duties included construction, infrastructure assessment, explosive hazards, and multiple command assignments. Mr. Kemper’s civilian career includes pressure vessels, aerospace, marine and subsea, medical devices, human factors, and numerical modeling. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in multiple countries and is a board-certified forensic engineer. This led to being the lead investigator for a multi-discipline technical team reviewing OceanGate’s documents and engineering for the Marine Board of Investigation of the Titan Submersible implosion. Other projects include the USACE West Closure Complex on the Mississippi River, US Space Plane System’s supersonic drone development, and developing a validation system for in-flow pipeline monitoring systems. Mr. Kemper is a lecturer and engineering researcher at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He has authored more than 35 publications, serves as a peer reviewer for multiple journals, and is Editor Emeritus of the Journal of the National Academy of Forensic Engineers. He is on several ASME Codes & Standards committees, including Pressure Vessels for Human Occupancy (PVHO), which covers medical hyperbarics, submarines, tunneling, and commercial diving systems. He also serves on ASME Verification, Validation, and Uncertainty Quantification subcommittees VVVUQ 10 (Solid Mechanics) and VVUQ 70 (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning), as well as the ASME Mobile Uncrewed Systems.

Wolfgang Bösch (Fellow of IEEE, IET, AAIS) received his Dipl.Ing. degree from the Technical University of Vienna, Austria, in 1985, his Ph.D. degree from the Graz University of Technology, Austria, in 1988, and his M.B.A. degree from the School of Management, University of Bradford, U.K., in 2004. In 2010, he joined Graz University of Technology to establish a new Institute of Microwave and Photonic Engineering. The research areas cover the characterization and design of microwave components, wave propagation, RFID, communication and radar systems. Until September 2024, for 9 years, he also has been the Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Information Engineering, which incorporates 13 Institutes and 20 full professors covering the areas of energy generation and distribution, electronics, and information engineering. He is responsible for the strategic development, the budget, and the personnel of the Faculty. Prior he was the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the Advanced Digital Institute, Shipley, U.K., he was the Director of Business and Technology Integration for RFMD, U.K., and for almost ten years, he was with Filtronic plc, U.K., as the CTO of Filtronic Integrated Products and the Director of the Global Technology Group. Before joining Filtronic, he held positions with the European Space Agency (ESA), The Netherlands, working on amplifier linearization techniques, with MPR-Teltech, Burnaby, BC, Canada, working on MMIC technology projects, and with the Corporate Research and Development Group of M/A-COM, Boston, MA, USA, where he worked on advanced topologies for high-efficiency power amplifiers. He was with DaimlerChrysler Aerospace (now Hensoldt), Ulm, Germany, for four years, working on T/R modules for airborne radar. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and a Fellow of the IET. He published more than 250 papers and holds 4 patents.

Krys is a principal user experience researcher and designer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where she leads the Human Centered Design Group. She has also designed ground systems for the Mars Sample Return, NISAR, Europa Clipper, and Europa Lander missions. Before joining JPL in 2015, Krys spent 20 years in Silicon Valley, designing ecommerce and healthcare experiences with companies ranging from tiny startups to industry giants. This is even more true when the company is a government organization, the product is a space robot, and the users are rocket scientists.

Katja Grünfeld is a Research Assistant and PhD Candidate at the Institute of Air Law, Space Law and Cyber Law at the University of Cologne, responsible for and researching space law under mentorship of Prof. Dr. Stephan Hobe. She began her career with the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court 2019, which her team won at Regional and International Rounds, enabling her the singular honour of appearing before three sitting judges of the International Court of Justice in the World Final. Since then she has coached several Moot Court teams, that have secured prestigous prizes such as Best Oralist award, Best European Memorial and even European Champions. During this time she graduated Summa Cum Laude from a Master in International Law from the University of Ljubljana with visits to Universities in Scotland, Germany and the United States of America. Most recently she accepted the position of Co-Lead for Working Group 1 on the EU COST Action Futures Oriented Governance of Outer Space (FOGOS) after successfully completing her work as Leader of Working Group Space for the Institute’s collaboration project with the German Aerospace Center (DLR) to produce the Cologne Manual on Space Traffic Management, which brought together over 40 international technical and legal experts, including from the DLR, the European Space Agency, the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency as well as the Kenya and Brazilian Space Agencies.

Gulseren Sakarya, PhD St., is a scientist working at the intersection of space health, nanotechnology, advanced materials, and space systems management. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in five different academic disciplines and is currently conducting doctoral research on nanorobots oscillating in microgravity and space program project management. She serves in the central organization of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Türkiye, contributing to national-level health and advanced technology programs. She is the recipient of 29 national and international awards and holds 11 registered patents, with over 90 additional patent applications. Her research interests include space health technologies, advanced material production, artificial organ design, nanotechnology, emotional artificial intelligence, unmanned aerial systems, space equipment, and AI and advanced system engineering. She is an active member and leader of the Mars Research Group within the Mars on Earth Project (MoEP) and the Andromeda Analog Astronaut Team, where she has served as a mentor for 16 universities across 9 countries. She has been a speaker at the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) 2025 in Sydney, Australia.

Berfin Deniz Cabuk is a PhD Candidate in Public International Law at the Department of International and European Law, specializing in Space Law, International Security Law, and International Humanitarian Law. Her doctoral research examines the legal challenges associated with the development and deployment of Anti-Satellite (ASAT) weapons within the frameworks of Space Law, International Law, and International Humanitarian Law. Berfin is a Research Associate in the Planet Stewards Project, a timely interdisciplinary global initiative addressing the sustainability challenges of evolving Earth–Space systems, funded by the European Research Council (ERC) at the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development, Utrecht University. She is also affiliated with the Research Platform on Peace, Security and Human Rights at Utrecht University.
